In Praise of Quinta da Leda
Have been enjoying this Douro Red for a few years now. It’s our go-to house wine in The Lancastrian pub in our Grasmere home – a beautiful blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão. A fine wine that is amazing value. It retails for 50€ in Portugal, $75 in the US and £52 in the UK. It compares favourably to Antinori’s gorgeous Tignanello (at half the Tignanello price – $145) and Château de Beaucastel (at $121).
Try the 2019 vintage. I’m drinking it now. A 94 rating from Wine Spectator. Flavours of crushed black cherry, black currants with fine tannins. Soft, creamy and delicious. Rated highly, under-priced, easy to enjoy, pairs delightfully with game, meat, cheese and even grilled mackerel!
