Foodie Friday – “When in Rome …”
A three minute walk up the Christmas-decorated boutiques of the Via del Babuino from our long-term favourite Rome hotel – the de Russie – is the All Saints Anglican Church, which holds the best family/inspirational English Sunday morning service in Rome. On the side street it runs on (the aptly named Via di Gesù e Maria) is one restaurant, and one restaurant only – the Hostaria Da Pietro. Peitro (Peter) opened the place 20 years ago to celebrate his passion for Italian cuisine, wine and hospitality. Brilliant wine list – every price level, all quality, classic home-made pastas, amazing beef, good fish, no nonsense service, no nonsense décor and furnishings – the best Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe fettucine with porcini mushroom we’ve tasted. It’s truffle season – so the white truffled beef carpaccio couldn’t be ignored.
We spent three leisurely hours there on Thursday – crowded, locals, visitors, noisy, upbeat – full of Italian. Real Brio!
Was so good we went back the following night.
When in Rome … visit Peter’s!!!
