Foodie Friday – A Blast from The Past

May 19, 2023

We just spent a few days in one of the most beautiful Mediterranean hot-spots – the fabled Cala di Volpe in Porto Cervo, Sardinia (Cala Di Volpe, Sardinia).  Created by the Aga Khan in the 60’s, the Resort has just been completely renovated without losing any of its magical beauty.  Lovely sunny evenings in the Piano Bar (where 007 hung out in The Spy Who Loved Me), beautiful breakfasts by the pool and out of this world service by the entire team of seasoned veterans and well-trained, passionate young ladies and gentlemen.

Last night we met a group of Irish couples – one of whom was the head of P&G’s Irish distributor who recommended we try The Belvedere, a three minute drive away in the mountains.

A classic Sardinian, elegant seafood, pasta and wine spot overlooking the Bay – run by two brothers Gianpaolo and Piero Pileri.  Passionate, fun, charming – Gianpaolo made us feel like Family.

Great fish – including the morning catch of Scorpion Fish – a hard to find favourite, Sea Bass, Daurade Bream.  We put ourselves in Gianpaolo’s hands and feasted on octopus tempura from local waters, yellowfin tuna tartare, spider- crab spaghetti and the perfect grilled Scorpion Fish.  Washed down by a full bodied Chassagne Montrachet.  Upstairs into the lounge bar for a Sardinian gelato with a ½ bottle of local Vin Santo – and an Espresso Martini for Trudy.

If you’re down this way, drop in on Gianpaolo for the best meal and the warmest welcome of your vacation.
